The Ceiling

You've Hit a Ceiling You Can't Break Through

You've worked hard to get the agency where it is. But the next level of ownership stays just out of reach, no matter how hard you push. Usually it's one of these holding you there.

  • Growth that doesn't stick

A good year, then a flat one. Nothing compounds because nothing underneath it changed.

  • The agency can't run without you

Every decision routes through your desk. Time off costs more than it's worth, and the business is worth less for it.

  • Operations that quietly cost you

Workflows nobody has questioned in years, leaking margin a little at a time.

  • Plans that never get past the plan

You know what needs doing. It has been on the list for three quarters.

  • Nobody holding you to it

You hold everyone else accountable. No one does that for the owner.

  • Advice from people who've never owned one

Theory is easy from the outside. You want someone who has actually carried the risk.

Meet the Coach

Kevin Wheeler

CIC · CPIA

Former insurance agency owner. Practical coach. Someone who has been there.

Kevin came out of Purdue in 1982 and into insurance in 1986, helping his father at the family agency, Cardinal Insurance, with a computer one of their carriers had dropped off. He saw what it could do. By 1989 he had the agency on comparative rating and agency management software, years ahead of the curve.

He bought the agency in 1994 and ran it fully automated and paperless — then added a customer portal in 2000, before most agencies had considered self-service. He has spent nearly forty years since making agencies run better, and joined Angela Adams Consulting at Accelerate 2023.

  • Louie E. Woodbury Jr. Award, twice
  • PIA of Indiana Agent of the Year, twice
  • Best Practices Agency, Regan Associates — 3×
  • Rough Notes Marketing Agency of the Month, Dec 2014
  • NetVU National Board — Chair, 1999
  • Vertafore R&D — PL Rating, AMS360, Producer Plus

Coaching from someone who understands the business.

How It Works

12 Weeks. 1:1 Coaching. Real Next Steps.

Each week, you and Kevin work on the issues that matter most in your agency.

Our 12-week coaching program is designed to help agency owners tackle their toughest challenges, improve profitability, and build sustainable, long-term growth. Through personalized weekly sessions, Kevin will guide you to develop better habits, optimize operations, and achieve measurable success.

There is no fixed curriculum, and that is the point. A syllabus is written before anyone knows what your agency needs. Your twelve weeks are not.

A fixed syllabus

Twelve identical weeks, decided before anyone met you.

Your agenda

Twelve weeks shaped by what is actually in your way.

The Record

Forty Years of Breaking Through

He is not coaching from theory. Every one of these was his own agency, his own risk, his own call.

  1. 1986

    Walks into the family agency

He goes to help his father at Cardinal Insurance with a computer a carrier had dropped off. He never leaves.

  2. 1994

    Buys the agency

Takes ownership and runs it fully automated and paperless, the paper files closed into storage. By 1989 he already had it on comparative rating.

  3. 1999

    Elected Chair, NetVU National Board

Shaping the national conversation about agency technology, not just his own shop. A customer portal followed in 2000.

  4. 2023

    Joins Angela Adams Consulting

Comes aboard at Accelerate 2023, bringing the whole record with him — and two Woodbury awards along the way.

What Comes Out of It

Twelve Weeks Later, Four Things Are Different

  • Clear direction

You know what you are building toward, and which thing is next.

  • Help with operations

The workflows nobody had questioned in years, questioned and fixed.

  • Better follow-through

Things leave the list. The plan stops being a plan.

  • Accountability every week

Someone who has owned an agency, asking how it went. Every week.

We're the second responders. When the fire trucks leave, we're the ones helping families and businesses get back on their feet.

Good to Know

Common Questions

What agency owners usually want to know before they book the first call.

Who is this for?

Insurance agency owners and principals — new owners trying to work out how to run the place, and seasoned owners who have hit a plateau and are tired of “good enough”. It is built around the owner’s problems, so it is not a producer or CSR program.

Is there a fixed curriculum?

No, and that is deliberate. Each week, you and Kevin work on the issues that matter most in your agency. A syllabus has to be written before anyone knows what you need; your twelve weeks do not.

My agency can’t run without me. Can that actually change?

That is one of the four things the program is built on. The System Development work is about creating efficient, self-sustaining systems for an agency that can run without you — which is also what makes the agency worth more when you eventually want it to be.

I’ve worked with consultants before and it was all theory.

Kevin owned an agency. He joined his family’s agency in 1986, bought it in 1994, and ran it — automated, paperless, with a customer portal running by 2000. The advice comes from having carried the risk himself, not from having read about it.

What happens between the sessions?

You do the work. Consistent check-ins are there to ensure progress, encourage growth and keep you on track — which for most owners is the part that has been missing. You hold everyone else accountable; this is someone doing that for you.

How do I get started?

A conversation with Kevin. Book a time that suits you, talk through where the agency is stuck, and decide from there whether the twelve weeks are the right next step.
